Gamma State Presidents,

Oh, the places I will go….From the mountaintop in Colorado to the plains of Oklahoma, my journey as Gamma State President has begun.  I will visit approximately twenty-four chapters this first year of the biennium.  Wow!  I'm looking forward to creating new bonds of friendship as I meet new sisters throughout Gamma State.

Many have asked about the Gamma State Theme for the biennium.  For a better focus on the Society, International requested that all states follow the International President’s Theme of “Embracing Our Vision ~ Designing Our Future”.    This theme will be evident in the planning for Gamma State.  In addition, I will honor my chapter Beta Beta by using our vision statement, “Embrace the Present ~ Impact the Future” as my personal theme for the biennium.

On August 27, 2011, sixty-five Gamma State committee chairman, members and state officers met to begin the work of the new biennium.  Oh the plans, they have for you!  One of the outcomes of the day was the updating of our Gamma State vision statement: “Serving Education ~ Honoring Tradition”.   What a perfect synopsis of what Gamma State is!

  • The Educational Excellence committee leads us in service through International Projects such as Schools for Africa and locally in projects assisting Early Career Educators.  Yes, we are moving forward with new exciting programs and projects all the while honoring the traditions of our Society.

  • The Essay Committee is distributing packets to chapters for 7th/8th Grade students to once again be involved. The topic is “I Am a Cloud and This is the Story of My Life’s Journey".

  • Be a Five-Star Newsletter Winner!

  • Will your chapter take one of the coveted Annie Awards?  New categories... check them out.

  • The Creative Women of Oklahoma Committee is asking for nominations of Oklahoma Authors.

  • Do you know what it takes to receive the Order of the Rose Award?

  • Nominate a candidate for the Gamma State Achievement Award or Chapter Service Award.

  • Has your chapter begun updating your chapter rules to align with Gamma State’s newly updated By Laws and Standing Rules and the International Constitution?

As you can see, the website is sporting a new look!  Visit often to get all your latest information.  The website is still adding important details as the new committees add the latest guidelines and programs.  Check back often and give us your input.  Is your chapter interested in creating a website?  During this upcoming year, we will offer workshops on creating inexpensive chapter websites.  Communication is Key to what we achieve!

Mark your calendars now for the State Leadership Conference on June 8-9, 2012, at the new Yukon High School.   All newly elected 2012-2014 chapter officers and committee chairman will want to attend the training provided by the Leadership Development Committee on Friday.  Saturday will be full of workshops for all members of the Society.  Gamma State will also be celebrating an 80th Birthday!  Join us in “Serving Education ~ Honoring Tradition.”

Contact me at any time for assistance in your chapters.  You will also find a Gamma State Leadership Directory of Officers, State Committee Chairman, and committee members here on the website.  Any officer or chairman would be happy to assist you.  I mentioned earlier that Communication is Key!  As your contact information changes, please send corrections of home address, phone numbers, and emails to me and to Diane Laase, Treasurer.

As we make this journey together this biennium, I leave you with the wisdom of Dr. Seuss.

Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
And will you succeed?
Yes!  You will, indeed!
(98 and ¼ percent guaranteed.)

Chapter Presidents, I look forward to working with you as you complete the final leg of your biennium.
